Creating a custom gown is not a quick and simple process. Every step of the process is customized for every client. It can range from 20 hours for a simple dress to over 100 for a complicated lace gown. During your consultation, you will be given an idea of an approximate time of delivery. Expect a minimum of 2-3 months for simple gowns. Short notice can be accommodated, but may incur an extra fee.
That isn't necessary! Part of having a custom gown made is the ability to design whatever you would like. Sometimes your idea of what you want will evolve over the design process. Do some looking around. Try on dresses in a similar style to what you like. Bring pins from your fantasy pinterest board. We will work together to arrive at a design that is perfect for you and you alone.
I order in silks, laces and other materials from all over the world. There are some resources available in Alberta but to make the perfect gown we often need to bring in the perfect materials. I have also done custom dyeing for several clients who wanted ombre gowns.
Well, yes. Custom pattern-work requires fittings on the body. The average formal gown requires between 4-7 fittings, with the average bridal gown ranging from 7-10 or more, depending on the complexity of the design.
Custom made clothing will definitely cost more than anything off the rack. A formal gown will range from $800 - $1500 while a custom bridal gown ranges from $2500 and up. Materials are the biggest variable in the equation. At your consultation you will be given a ballpark figure to use for your budget. I require a non refundable deposit for materials. The remaining balance can be paid in installments with the balance in full required for delivery of the gown.
Yes! I have made sports-coats, tux jackets and shirts for men, ballet costumes including russian pancake tutus, costumes for both historical and fantasy performances, corsetry, and much much more! Just ask if you have something special in mind!
This is determined on a case by case basis. It is often easier to make a gown from scratch than to complete complex alterations. I can always take a look and let you know.
